Champions of Character

SAC -- Champions of Character

The Sooner Athletic Conference promotes the education and development of students through intercollegiate athletics participation, academic achievement, and character development. The NAIA Champions of Character, an innovative outreach program designed to instill character values in student-athletes and coaches, contains five core values embraced by each SAC member institution.

Those associated with sport demonstrate respect by treating themselves, other persons, institutions and their sport according to the highest standards of conduct through civilized and gracious behavior to players, coaches, fans, and parents.

Responsible athletes make academic progress toward graduation a primary priority. They solve problems rather than make excuses and are reliable team players. Students are held accountable for their actions and decisions, and coaches and administrators maintain high standards of competence and conduct.

Student competitors and coaches demonstrate integrity by keeping commitments and behaving honestly. SAC coaches subscribe to and practice the NAIA Coaches Code and Code of Ethics, and SAC student-athletes know, understand, and abide by the Champions of Character Student-Athlete Pledge.

Servant Leadership:
Servant-leaders place primary focus on the health of a group, demonstrating responsibility for individual and collective roles while performing at the highest personal level. Servant-leaders strive to become personal and team leaders while being engaged in campus and community service.

Administrators, coaches, students, fans, and parents are expected to act appropriately even when others do not, and demonstrate fairness and equity in all contests and relationships.

It is the explicit purpose of the SAC to provide a community of member institutions that share a commitment to vigorous and principled competition between teams of student athletes who represent their colleges and universities well. Each member institution is required to support and field a balanced program of student athletics competing in at least one SAC sanctioned sport in the fall, one in the winter, and one in the spring including teams of both men and women in each season.
