(Kansas City, Missouri)---The SNU men's basketball team was just one game away from the national semifinals, before falling to Robert Morris on Saturday night, 109-101. SNU made a valliant effort in the final minutes and nearly came back to win the game. They played very well in the second half, but a fifteen point half-time deficit just could not be overcome.
SNU had a very tough first half defensively, as they gave up 54 points and found themselves down 54-39 at halftime. SNU was able to execute well in the first half offensively and created good opportunities, but they could not find a way to stop Robert Morris.
As the second half started, SNU looked rejuvenated and kept chipping into the lead. Although, the second half was a lot more even than the first half, SNU had fallen into a hole that was going to be hard to fight their way out of.
Everytime SNU cut the lead to single digits, Robert Morris was able to extend it back to thirteen to fifteen points. This happened back and forth several times in the second half, and while SNU seemed like the better team in the second half, they would have to be at least sixteen points better to come away with the win.
SNU was finally able to cut the lead to just six points after an Adrian Hunter three-pointer, but that was in the final two minutes of the game. SNU continued to foul and trade baskets for free throws, but it wouldn't be enough as SNU finally fell, 109-101. They outscored Robert Morris 62-55 in the second half.
Robert Morris shot the ball exceptionally well, which can make any team hard to beat. For the game, they shot 57.8% from the field (33-for-57) and from the three point line, they scorched the nets, shooting 53.8% (14-for-26). SNU shot 45.9% from the field (34-for-74) and 43.5% from the three point line (10-for-23). SNU outshot Robert Morris at the free throw line, 85% (23-for-27) to 67% (29-for-43).
SNU had five scorers in double digits. A.J. Thomas led the game in scoring with 27 points. Jon West and Jeremy Lightfoot both added 16 points. Daniel White and Vladimir Bulut scored 15 and 14 points respectively.
