Oklahoma Baptist continued its Sooner Athletic Conference track and field dominance with the Lady Bison winning its 14th consecutive conference title while the Bison successfully defended its 2009 championship Saturday in Shawnee.
Coach Ford Mastin was men's and women's Coach of the Year while Brianna Shippy carried off Most Valuable Female Athlete honors. The men's award belonged to Wayland Baptist University's Myran Roundtree.
Shippy won the pole vault at 3.75 meters and the triple jump at 11.23 meters, hitting automatic and B standard times in those respective events, and was second in the 100 hurdles at 15.28 seconds and third in the high jump at 1.55 meters.
Roundtree won the 100 meters in 10.8 seconds, the long jump at 7.31 meters and the triple jump at 14.7 meters and was fifth in the high jump at 1.81 meters.
OBU won the men's competition with 244 points, followed by Wayland Baptist at 183, Oklahoma Christian with 114, Oklahoma City with 41 and Southern Nazarene with 14.
The Lady Bison had 299 points to cruise to victory while Oklahoma Christian had 137, Wayland Baptist 115 and Southern Nazarene 48.
In all, there were 49 automatic national qualifying marks in the meet, including seven in the men's 400 meters and six in the men's 800 meters.
Conference champions for the women are Kimberly Smith of Wayland Baptist in the 100 meters at 11.85 seconds, Marissa Moseley of Oklahoma Baptist in the 200 at 24.11 and the 400 at 54.68, Kydia Echols of Wayland Baptist in the 800 at 2:14.77, Elva Pedroza of Wayland Baptist in the 1500 at 4:45.77 and Nicole Lair of Oklahoma Christian in the 5000 at 18:37.75.
Also, Verone Chambers of OBU won the 100 hurdles at 14.33 seconds and the 400 hurdles at 1:00.19 and Sarah Taylor of OBU won the 3000 steeplechase in 11:50.95.
Wayland Baptist won the 4x100 relay at 46.70 and the 4x800 at 9:19.73. OBU won the 4x400 relay at 3:47.10 in a rematch with Wayland Baptist of March's NAIA championship-maker for OBU.
OBU's Abby Lewis won the high jump at 1.6 meters and Bianca Grant won the long jump at 5.52 meters.
Denise Mattoon of Oklahoma Christian won the shot put at 44-11 and the hammer at 156-07, Emily Ostlund took the javelin at 38.77 meters and Olivia Boisse of OBU won the discus at 38.39 meters.
On the men's side, Pierien Inniss won the 200 at 21.53 for OBU, John Marks of Oklahoma City won the 400 at 47.01, Silas Kisorio of Oklahoma Christian won the 800 at 1:49.21 and the 1500 at 3:57.64. Kennedy Kithuka of Wayland Baptist set the meet record in the 5000 at 14:09.90.
OBU's Derik Douglass won the 110 high hurdles at 15.03 while Adam Betterton won the 400 hurdles in 53.73. Kithuka won the 3000 steeplechase in 9:09.99.
Wayland Baptist won the 4x100 relay in 41.10 seconds and the 4x800 in 7:40.52 while Oklahoma City won the 4x400 in 3:11.41.
Phillip Dale of Oklahoma Christian took the high jump at 1.91 meters. OBU's Jeff Lewis won the pole vault at 4.9 meters.
Wayland Baptist's Brandon Mannsfield won the shot put at 46-05.5, the discus at 38.65 meters and the hammer throw at 176-3. Luke Johns of Oklahoma Christian won the javelin at 51.32 meters.
