NEW YORK - Oklahoma City University has garnered the top spot in Golf World's preseason NAIA men's golf rankings.

The defending national champion Stars picked up 10 of the 11 first-place votes in the rankings. OCU captured its seventh men's golf national title after previously winning crowns in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

OCU fired a 293-299-304-288-1,184 on May 21 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., to be five strokes better than Oklahoma Christian, the 2009 national champion. The Stars return three of their top five from the NAIA Championships - Taylor Artman, Clark Collier and Michael Palmer.

Artman, a junior from Norman, Okla., carded a 74.56 stroke average last season. Artman broke into the top five late in the season, making the five in the Stars' five events of 2009-10. Artman contributed to OCU's team victory in the Lubbock Christian Fall Invitational on Sept. 13-15 with a top-10 finish.

Collier, a junior from Edmond, Okla., posted 72.97 shots per 18 holes last season. Collier earned first-team all-American honors from the NAIA and Golf Coaches Association of America and all-NAIA Central Region acclaim. He put together four top-five finishes last season, including winning the Midwestern State Invitational on March 22-23.

Palmer, a sophomore from Johannesburg, South Africa, had a team-low 72.34 stroke average in 2009-10. Palmer became the Phil Mickelson Award winner as the most outstanding freshman in NAIA men's golf while also picking up consensus first-team all-American and all-region nods. Palmer, the Sooner Athletic Conference individual champion, had six top-10 finishes while winning two tournaments last season.

Oklahoma Christian took the second spot in the preseason rankings, while Malone (Ohio) was ranked third. South Carolina-Beaufort sat in fourth, while Savannah Art & Design (Ga.) held the fifth spot in the poll.

Other SAC teams making the top 25 were eighth-ranked Southern Nazarene, 23rd-ranked Oklahoma Baptist and No. 25 Lubbock Christian.

The poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America. The rankings will be featured in the Sept. 6 issue of Golf World.

OCU, which has the most national crowns in NAIA men's golf, has captured the SAC title 16 times.
