Oklahoma Christian's Trey Boykin has been named to the College Division list on the Capital One Academic All-America teams.
OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 29, 2011) - Oklahoma Christian senior forward Trey Boykin has been named to the second-team College Division list on the Capital One Academic All-America men's soccer teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The College Division Academic All-America teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
Boykin, a product of Westmoore High School in Oklahoma City, carries a 3.57 grade point average in mechanical engineering. He was one of only two Sooner Athletic Conference players selected to the College Division squads, joining Rogers State forward Henrique Sousa, who also made the second-team list.
Boykin is the first OC men's soccer player to be honored on the Academic All-America teams since Adam Barnes received first-team honors in 2007 and only the third in the program's 26-year history. Barnes also made the second-team list in 2006, while OC's Austin Taylor made the second-team list in 2001.
"Trey is definitely very deserving of this honor," OC head coach David Scott said. "Trey has worked very hard both in the classroom and on the field. As a coach, you wish all of your players were as easy to deal with as Trey. This award is a good way for him to end his career."
Boykin led OC with eight goals this season, tying him for sixth overall in the SAC. His hat trick in a 7-0 season-opening win over Sterling (Kan.) was the sixth multiple-goal game of his career and earned him conference offensive player of the week honors. He also had three assists as OC went 8-6-4 this season.
He scored 25 goals in his career, including a game-winning overtime goal against John Brown (Ark.) as a junior in the final game of the regular season, which propelled OC into the SAC tournament. He assisted this season on a game-winning overtime goal by Will Binder in the regular-season finale against Wayland Baptist (Texas), which also sent the Eagles into the conference tourney.
