KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 4, 2012) - Oklahoma Christian freshman Anna Arrese Cortadellas has been named as the NAIA's women's golfer of the week, the NAIA office announced Wednesday.
Arrese, from Barcelona, Spain, was honored after her eight-shot win in the Battle at Primm in Primm, Nev., last week. She finished the two-round tournament at 3-under-par 141, winning in a runaway in only her third collegiate event.
She also became the first medalist for the OC women's program, which is in its first season of existence.
Arrese led the Lady Eagles to a third-place finish at the tournament, behind only a pair of top-five NAIA teams. OC beat eight ranked teams in the power-packed field and jumped four spots in the most recent NAIA rankings to No. 12.
"Anna Arrese is an exceptional golfer and I expect that she will represent this university well with several more wins and awards," OC coach Greg Lynn said.
OC's Alasdair Dalgliesh was named as the NAIA men's golfer of the week on Wednesday as well, giving OC the first sweep of the women's and men's national golf awards during the same week.
Two other OC athletes have received NAIA weekly national honors in their respective sports during this school year. Silas Kisorio was named as the NAIA men's cross country runner of the week in October and Brandon Jackson was named as the NAIA men's field athlete of the week last month.
