Wayland Baptist's Kennedy Kithuka and Oklahoma Christian's Larry Brown are Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for April 16-22.
Kituka, a junior from Nairobi, Kenya, Kithuka's had the NAIA's top time and a school-record 28:18.97 in the Mount SAC Relays. It is the second-best at any collegiate level this season. He and first place winner, Arizona's Stephen Sambu ran away from the rest of the field, which consisted almost entirely of NCAA DI and non-collegiate competitors. In the 5K, Kithuka's time is the third-best at any collegiate level this season, is a new school mark and is tops in the NAIA. He was the third collegian to cross the finish line. Canadian Olympic qualifier Cameron Levins of Southern Utah and Lawi Lalang, the reigning NCAA cross country champion, finished one-two. Only non-collegians separated Kithuka from Levins and Lalang.
Brown, a sophomore from Shelbyville, Ind., won the hammer throw at the Tabor Invitational with a toss of 49.95 meters for a season-best. He also was 10th in the shot put at 12.54 meters.
