LUBBOCK, Texas (April 29, 2012) - It was Senior Day at PlainsCapital Park for No.5 Lubbock Christian University, but it was freshman Maddie Johnson playing a big role. Johnson had a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, and LCU clinched their fourth Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title with a 9-0 and 10-2 win in a doubleheader sweep over Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
The pair of wins helped LCU close out their regular season with a record of 49-5 overall and 18-3 in the SAC. The 18-3 record clinched the fourth regular season conference title for the fifth year program and their third out-right. It is the fourth consecutive season the Lady Chaps have had at least a share of the regular season title. Even though LCU claims the regular season title, they more than likely will serve as the No.2-seed at the SAC Tournament, which begins Friday at ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City. Conference rules add a half-win and a half-loss for conference tournament seeding-only purposes to the record of each team for SAC games that went unplayed. LCU was unable to play five of their conference games due to weather. Oklahoma City University has two games remaining against Rogers State University and they would have to lose both games to RSU for them to lose position as the top seed for the conference tournament. The conference tournament will consist of eight teams and it will be a double-elimination format tournament.
