St. Gregory's scored the first four runs of the game, but Oklahoma Baptist got the last eight for the 8-4 victory in the first day of the Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament in Shawnee Wednesday.

 

The Cavaliers scored twice in the second on RBI doubles by Tyler Bento and Jordan Funtila and twice more in the third on an RBI double by Christian Torres and an RBI ground out by Roberto Celestino.


 

OBU scored three times in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Michael Sliger and an RBI single by Mitch Warne.

 

The Bison took the lead with a four-run sixth inning on a two-run double by Yael Colon and a two-run single by Greg Nelson.

 

OBU added one more in the seventh on an RBI single by Sliger.

 

Daniel Marti (4-0) pitched three scoreless innings of relief to get the win while SGU starter Chance Gilbert (5-7) suffered the loss.

 

OBU had a dozen hits in the game, including three by Sliger and two each by Nelson and Dillon Usiak.

 

Thursday round of pool play as SGU (22-27) taking on Rogers State at 2 p.m., followed by the Bison and USAO at 6 p.m.
