OKLAHOMA CITY – Sara Mobley is leaving her position as Oklahoma City University women’s golf coach to become assistant women’s golf coach at Tulsa.
Mobley led OCU to two NAIA championships in her two seasons as coach of the Stars. She was NAIA coach of the year twice and Region VI coach of the year in her first season.
On May 18, OCU won a third women’s golf title in a row, a feat never before accomplished in the NAIA.
OCU athletic director Jim Abbott will begin a search for a new coach immediately. Abbott has the goal of having a new coach soon.
“Women’s golf is important here at OCU, and we’re looking for a coach that can continue our tradition of success both on the course and off,” Abbott said. “We’ll take our time to find the right candidate, but ultimately I’d like to get someone in place by July.”
Under Mobley’s guidance, the Stars won 14 tournament titles in 21 events. OCU won two NAIA Region VI titles and two Sooner Athletic Conference championships. In 2006, OCU set national tournament record lows for 18, 36, 54 and 72 holes.
Mobley coached 2006 NAIA champion Ashley Sholer, two-time all-Americans Tamara Campbell, Christina Cung and Toni Pyrum as well as all-Americans Emily Albrektson and Sydney Cox.
“I was blessed to be a part of the OCU family,” Mobley said. “I’ve been very fortunate to have a wonderful golf team. They’re fine ladies and will do well in the community. The staff at OCU is completely supportive of every sport. I can’t thank President Tom McDaniel enough for the opportunity to be a part of a winning program and to become a better coach.”
