Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) is excited to announce Paul Hason as the new women's head soccer coach. Since 1990, Hason has played or coached at every college division possible, as well as playing professionally overseas and here locally with the Dallas Sidekicks.
"A reading of Coach Hason's resume indicates a passion for soccer and a passion for bettering people," says athletic director Jesse Godding, "His ability to lead athletically and spiritually will become evident to the individuals in the program as well as parents and fans. Coach Hason is passionate about seeing individuals grow in their faith while excelling on the field."
"I want to thank the SAGU administration for putting their faith in me to lead the women's soccer program," says Hason, "I feel extremely humbled and blessed at the chance to lead SAGU women's soccer. My family and I look forward to joining the SAGU community and look forward to contributing in every way we can. I'm very excited to meet the current and future faces of the Lady Lions, the players that I have already been praying for."
Hason is proud to continue his family's soccer tradition. Following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps, Hason has become the third generation to reach the professional level as a player and coach. Hason is extremely familiar with soccer in the DFW area as it is a family tradition. His father was one of the pioneers of soccer in North Texas as well as the head coach at Dallas Baptist University and the University of Dallas.
Hason is the executive director of Dallas Soccer, where he offers private as well as consulting/coaching services for clubs. In addition, Hason also works with the US Girls National Team Program as a staff coach with the Market Training Center in North Texas. The Market Training Center is an invite-only training program for elite female soccer players from ages 12 - 16.
Hason graduated with a degree in Christian Ministries from fellow Sooner Athletic Conference school, Mid-America Christian University. For him, the opportunity to coach the Lady Lions couldn't align with his passions more, "The environment is set up so everyone is on the same page. Everything we do in the program all revolves around focusing on the Lord and glorifying Him. To have that combined with the sports side and academics make it an amazing place for a student athlete to grow all-around."
From 2007-2012, Hason served as an assistant men's coach at Southern Methodist University. He helped the Mustang's attend three NCAA tournaments. In 2010 they were ranked no. five and in 2011 no. six in the overall tournament. In 2010, the Mustangs reached the NCAA quarterfinals before falling to University of North Carolina in penalty kicks. While at SMU, Hason had 12 players drafted to the MLS. From 2002-2005, Hason served as an assistant women's coach at Texas Woman's University.
The Lady Lions are coming off of their best season in school history. Hason is excited to continue to build on the foundation that Coach Mandy Fortner established, "I believe in a growth mindset. We can always be better than we were yesterday. If we keep that mindset, the results will follow. The former coaches have laid a great foundation and a good road map. The Lord has equipped me to become the new steward of the women's soccer program at SAGU and I look forward to fulfilling His Will."
SAGU women's soccer officially kicks off the 2016 season when they play Paul Quinn College on Monday, August 22nd at 1:00pm. When that first whistle blows, we can expect ball possession along with high-pressure defensively says Hason, "I believe pressure defines a player and we look forward to playing against our toughest opponents."
Hason is married to Timmons and they have a four-year-old son named Christian. He will begin his duties immediately.
