OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – (Oct. 18, 2016) – Oklahoma City University, an eight-time NAIA Division I women's basketball champion, is the choice among Sooner Athletic Conference coaches to win the 2016-17 basketball crown. The Stars, under second-year coach Bo Overton, were the top choice on six ballots and received a total of 86 points.

Defending league and tournament champion Wayland Baptist was voted second with three first-place votes and 78 points. John Brown University was third with 69 points ahead of four teams that were were narrow choices between from fourth to seventh place.

Southwestern Christian was picked fourth with 56 points, one point ahead of Texas Wesleyan who was fifth at 55 points. Mid-America Christian received the final first-place vote and was picked sixth with 54 points, two points ahead of seventh-place Southwestern Assemblies of God University with 52.

Science and Arts was picked eighth with 40 points, followed by St. Gregory's in ninth with 29 points and Bacone College in 10th with 19 points.

The SAC season will conclude with its championship tournament featuring the top eight teams from the regular season competing in a single-elimination tournament set to begin Feb. 28, 2017 before the semifinals and championship game moving to Oklahoma City University.
