University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma staffer Justin Tinder has been selected as the 2017 Sooner Athletic Sports Information Director of the Year by a vote of the league's athletic media professionals.
Tinder, who won the award for the first time, will be the conference's nominee for the NAIA National SID Award set to be announced later this month. This is the fourth year that the SAC has recognized sports information directors for their hard work and their outstanding contributions to the league. Longtime Oklahoma Baptist SID Ray Fink was honored with the inaugural award in 2014. Former St. Gregory's SID Brad Collins was the winner in 2015 while Oklahoma City's Rich Tortorelli was last year's recipient.
Sooner Athletic Conference Commissioner Stan Wagnon said "It's a great honor for the league's sports information directors to choose Justin for this award. Justin is in the unique position of working alongside each of them as SID at USAO while also leading them as the coordinator of SAC sports information efforts His selection for this award is a testament to how well Justin relates to his peers, no matter the role."
The 2016-17 season was Tinder's second overall at USAO where he directs information and publicity efforts for the Drovers nine intercollegiate athletic programs. He also served as the SAC conference information director since 2014.
A 1990 graduate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Tinder has worked in the sports information field for more than 25 years at various institutions, conferences and organizations across Oklahoma and Texas.
