KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oklahoma City University's Dani Chase took NAIA volleyball defender of the week, becoming the first Star to gain the national recognition.
Chase, a senior libero from Yukon, Okla., garnered her third Sooner Athletic Conference defender of the week nod of the season and sixth of her OCU career for the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
Chase posted 7.33 digs and 0.50 aces per set in victories over Mid-America Christian and USAO as the Stars secured their fourth consecutive win.
She accumulated 22 digs in both matches, giving her seven 20-dig contests this year. Chase ranks ninth in the NAIA with 5.90 digs per set and 11th in the SAC at 0.36 aces a set. She also contributed an ace as the Stars landed 10 or more aces for the fourth consecutive match with 11 against USAO.
The NAIA has awarded defender of the week honors since 2015-16. Chase joined Mark Shaw, who was NAIA men's cross country runner of the week, as OCU student-athletes who have collected a national weekly award in 2017-18.
