EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma City University posted the top four scores in the NAIA Region VI women's golf championships to win its sixth regional and Sooner Athletic Conference titles in a row Tuesday at Rose Creek Golf Club.
The Stars' Ashley Sholer became regional and conference champion, while Christina Cung earned regional runner-up. Tamara Campbell and Sydney Cox tied for third place for OCU.
The Stars will challenge for its unprecedented fourth consecutive NAIA women's golf championship in the NAIA Championships on May 20-23. Kylie Frederick and Laura Jones added a tie for 18th place for the Stars.
"We're very excited and played really well considering the conditions," OCU coach M.J. Desbiens. "I'm just very, very happy for them and ready to go to nationals."
Sholer, a junior from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, sank five birdies along the way to firing a 77-76–153. Cung, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, birdied two holes en route to an 80-78–158.
Campbell recorded a 77-83–160, while Cox shot 81-79–160. Frederick had an 83-89–172, and Jones had an 88-84–172.
First-day leader Kelly Rainbolt finished fifth with a 76-85–161 to lead Lubbock Christian, which shot 328-330–658. Southern Nazarene finished with a third-place 330-336–666 as Natalia Camacho and Morgan Totty tied for eighth. Oklahoma Baptist and Northwestern were sixth and seventh, respectively.
