Lady Chaps Earn First Region Title
Lady Chaps Earn First Region Title
Farmers Branch, Texas  – The No. 9 nationally ranked Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps softball team added another chapter to their storied first season, as they defeated the No. 3 ranked and defending NAIA champion Oklahoma City University 5-1 in the Region VI Tournament championship game, to earn an automatic bid to the NAIA Championships in Decatur, Ala.

LCU went 3-0 in the tournament Thursday, including a win over OCU to place them into the title game. OCU had to defeat St. Gregory's University Friday to arrive back to a rematch against the Lady Chaps. OCU won the rematch 3-0. The three runs were produced in the third inning on a three-run home run by Erin Sletvett off Lady Chaps pitcher Marissa Gonzalez, who pitched all seven innings and allowed just five hits. Jenni Gabby registered the win retiring the last 16 batters faced. OCU's win forced an elimination match against the Lady Chaps. Both teams scored early with each grabbing a run in the second inning. The Lady Chaps followed with a four-run third and took a 5-1 lead. That would turn out as the final score with Marissa Gonzalez earning the victory in the circle.

The Lady Chaps improve to 51-9 with the win as they claim their first Region VI title, which comes with an automatic bid to the NAIA Championships. More on the NAIA Championships will be announced at a later date.
