SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Oklahoma City University trailed by one stroke after the third round of the NAIA women's golf championships on Thursday at Lake San Marcos Country Club.
The top-ranked Stars seek their fourth consecutive NAIA championship. Embry-Riddle (Fla.) held the lead entering the final 18 holes Friday.
OCU shot its lowest round of the tournament Thursday, putting the Stars at 318-315-309–942. Sydney Cox fired a 73 to spark the Stars' performance in the third round. Cox, a junior from Edmond, Okla., has an 81-86-73–240 to be tied for 23rd.
Ashley Sholer of OCU stood five shots off the pace through 54 holes. Sholer, a junior from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, recorded an 80-75-77–232 to be in third through the first three rounds. Embry-Riddle's Tara Allen held the lead with a 76-74-77–227.
The Stars' Christina Cung was tied for 11th. Cung, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, has shot 79-80-79–238. Laura Jones chipped in a 78-81-80–239 to be tied for 21st, and Tamara Campbell had an 86-79-84–249.
Lubbock Christian stood in sixth place with a 326-323-326–975. Kelly Rainbolt led Lubbock Christian with an 80-79-81–240, which was tied for 23rd.
Southern Nazarene was in 16th with a 336-338-342–1,016. Natalia Camacho has shot 82-81-83–246 to lead Southern Nazarene.
The tournament's final round begins at 9:30 a.m. Oklahoma time Friday. Campbell will be the first Star to tee off at the first hole at 2:50 p.m.
