NEW YORK - Six-time national champion Oklahoma City University garnered the No. 2 ranking in the preseason GolfWorld NAIA men's golf ratings to be released in the Aug. 29 issue.
The Stars finished 10 points behind top-ranked British Columbia in the poll. OCU earned two first-place votes, while defending NAIA champion British Columbia had six. Oklahoma Christian got one first-place vote and were third in the rankings.
Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) is fourth, while Berry (Ga.) rounds out the top five in the NAIA rankings.
Oklahoma City finished third in last year's NAIA men's golf championships. Anthony Michael and Julian Valenciana earned first-team all-American, while Stafford Gray was second-team all-American. Colin Nel and Clay Parks were honorable-mention all-American.
Michael finished tied for 10th in the NAIA Championships last year. Michael, a senior from Johannesburg, South Africa, became a three-time all-American.
The Stars have won NAIA men's golf titles in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007, all under coach Kyle Blaser.
Oklahoma Christian finished as runner-up in last year's NAIA Championships. Fernando Gonzales, a senior from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, tied for third place individually to lead the Eagles. Oklahoma Christian will be led by first-year coach Kelsey Cline.
