Oklahoma Baptist took third place in both the men's and women's NAIA
Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Lady Bison had 54 points and trailed only Wayland Baptist (68) and Azusa Pacific (67) in the team standings. The Bison had 39 points, falling behind Azusa Pacific with 78.5 and Dickinson State at 55.
Marissa Moseley and Verone Chambers finished first and second, respectively, in the 400 meters at 54.85 and 54.89 seconds to give the Lady Bison 18 points.
"Marissa defended her title and that's not easy," said OBU Coach Ford Mastin. "Brianna Shippy got a championship in the pole vault (Friday) and the girls won the relay. The big surprise was Friday with Olivia Boisse getting fifth in the weight throw."
Moseley, Sarah Patterson, Shondia Drew and Chambers captured the 4x400 relay in 3:47.35.
That Moseley-Chambers combo worked for multiple points again in the 200 with Moseley getting third in 24.52 and Chambers taking fifth at 24.82, gaining eight points.
Nicole Cummings was fourth in the triple jump, adding four points to the team total by clearing 39-2.25 for a new school record.
Yesenia Avila tossed in a point, finishing sixth in the 600 meters at 1:38.18.
"Yesenia ran her heart out in the relays and didn't have much left, but she did a good job," said Mastin.
The Bison picked up 10 points in the 800 meters with freshman Andre Thomas winning his first championship in 1:50.52. Nick Blackwell just missed the points in eighth at 1:56.26.
"Thomas winning that as a freshman was pretty impressive and he beat the defending champion to do it.," said Mastin.
Brock Stoltzfus was fifth in the 3000 meters in 8:31.12 to give OBU two points.
Seth Brown picked up eight points for the Bison in the pole vault with a personal best 16-2.75 while Jonathan Hilton tied for fifth at 15-2, a day after taking the heptathlon.
"Jonathan winning the pentathlon was a big highlight of the meet," Mastin said. "And then getting fifth in the pole vault was a big deal.
The men got another point from Durrell Williams in the 1000, taking sixth at 2:38.09.
