Eric Young is the first RSU athlete to earn second team All-America honors.
Leave room for one more note in the chronicles of Rogers State's historic 2008-09 basketball season.
Eric Young and Sylvester Spicer became the first Hillcat basketball players to earn All-America honors Tuesday night. Young was named to the All-America second team while Spicer was tabbed honorable mention.
The duo spearheaded an incredible season for the second-year men's basketball program. The Hillcats posted a 30-2 record and claimed the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships. RSU was ranked No. 1 in the country for the final seven weeks of the season and made the school's first-ever National Tournament appearance.
Young led the team in scoring and rebounding during his junior season. He poured in 14.4 points and 6.0 rebounds on his way to earning first-team all-conference accolades. The Houston native was also named to the SAC all-tournament team and received the tournament's Hustle Award. Spicer averaged 13.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, earning him second-team all-conference recognition. He was also named MVP of the SAC Tournament and set a school record with 32 points against Oklahoma City University on Feb. 21, 2009.
Both Young and Spicer are slated to return for their senior season at RSU in 2009-2010.
