DEVENS, Mass. - NAIA individual women's golf champion Sydney Cox will be competing in the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship starting Monday at Red Tail Golf Club.
Cox finished her college career by leading Oklahoma City University to its fifth consecutive national championship in May at Rapid City, S.D. Cox, from Edmond, Okla., will tee off at 12:10 p.m. Oklahoma time at the first hole, then at 7:10 a.m. on the 10th tee.
Players in the 33rd annual U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship will play 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday on the par-72, 6,165-yard or 6,267-yard layout to qualify for the match-play portion of the tournament. The champion will be decided over four days of match play ending with a 36-hole final round Saturday, June 27.
To advance to the championship, Cox finished second with a 77 in a qualifier on May 27 at Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo. Players in the tournament are women's amateur golfers who play public courses and have a USGA Handicap Index 18.4 or lower.
Cox joined Emily Albrektson in 2005 and Ashley Sholer in 2006 as NAIA women's golf individual champions from OCU. Cox became a three-time all-American, two-time NAIA Championships all-tournament selection and two-time NAIA scholar-athlete award winner.
Cox averaged 76.19 shots per 18 holes in 26 rounds for the Stars this season. She finished her college career with a 78.03 stroke average and four tournament wins.
