OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City University placed sixth in the NAIA National Association of College Directors of Athletics Director's Cup standings for 2008-09 after the Stars won the national women's golf championship.
Among the Sooner Athletic Conference, Oklahoma Baptist finished 14th, Wayland Baptist, 17th; Oklahoma Christian, 35th; Lubbock Christian, 39th; Southern Nazarene, 53rd; St. Gregory's, 116th; and Northwestern Oklahoma State, Rogers State and USAO tied for 166th.
OCU captured its fifth consecutive NAIA women's golf crown. In 2008-09, the Stars also reached the NAIA semifinals in men's soccer and women's basketball, placed tied for third in the NAIA World Series and took fourth in men's golf and softball. The Stars took the SAC Cup for the ninth time in 10 years.
Since 1996-97, OCU has nine top-10 finishes in the NAIA Director's Cup standings and has finished in the top 12 nationally for the past 12 consecutive years. The Stars finished their highest this season since taking fourth in 2003-04.
OCU, which has 35 NAIA championships, has taken a national title each year for the past 16 years.
Points in the Director's Cup standings are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports, six men's and six women's. Azusa Pacific (Calif.) won the NAIA Director's Cup for the fifth consecutive year. To see the full Director's Cup standings, click here.
