(BROWNSVILLE, Texas)---The 16th-seeded Crimson Storm women's soccer
team advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament on
Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over the University of Texas at
Brownsville in Brownsville. SNU improves to 17-3-1 on the year and
will now battle the tournament's top seed, Lindsey Wilson, Kentucky on
Monday, November 30th at 4:00 p.m. (EST) in Decatur, Alabama.
Jackie Acevedo collected her second hat trick of the season and
added an assist as Southern Nazarene University advanced to the NAIA
Women's Soccer Second Round with a 4-1 win over UTB/TSC Saturday at REK
Center Field.
The Crimson Storm, seeded 16th in the NAIA field, will go to the
site of the finals in Decatur, Ala. Nov. 30-Dec. 5 with 17-3-1 record.
UTB/TSC ended its season with a 11-5-2 record.
SNU led at halftime, 2-0.
Acevedo scored her first goal unassisted in the 37th minute and
added another goal a minute later with an assist by Randi Duncan to
make it 2-0, a score that stood up at halftime.
In the 57th minute, Acevedo completed the hat trick with an assist
by Bruna Da Cas to make it 3-0. Five minutes later, she assisted on a
goal by Rachel Eguren, making it 4-0.
Helen Wagstaff added a goal for the Scorpions only nine seconds
later off a corner kick by Sara Di Benedetto for the final 4-1 margin.
SNU outshot UTB/TSC, 17-16, and had a 9-5 advantage on shots on goal.
Rachel Wade played all 90 minutes for the Crimson Storm and had four saves. Stephanie Reid had five saves for the Scorpions.
