(DECATUR, Ala.)---The Crimson Storm women’s soccer team saw their 2009 season come to an end in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament on Monday afternoon as SNU fell to #1-seeded Lindsey Wilson, 4-0. SNU’s season comes to a conclusion with a 17-4-1 record. The Blue Raiders (18-2-2) were the tournament’s top-seed and were a heavy favorite in Monday’s game and it showed early on as Lindsey Wilson dominated possession for much of the first half.

The first ten minutes of the game were a struggle for the Crimson Storm as Lindsey Wilson struck early, scoring the games first goal four minutes in when Caitlin Burke scored at the 41:00 minute mark to put LWC up 1-0.

The Blue Raiders quickly added to their lead six minutes later as Elisha Fry scored on a header off a corner kick at the 35:49 mark. Fry’s goal came off of an Ida Gregersen assist to put Lindsey Wilson up 2-0.

SNU started to get the ball moving on the offensive end as the first half expired, but the Storm was not able to get a ball into the goal and Lindsey Wilson led 2-0 at the break.

Starting the second half, SNU again seemed to have some momentum early, controlling possession for the first eight minutes, but the Blue Raiders used their first opportunity of the half to add to their lead. This time, Lindsey Wilson’s Lorna Heaton scored the Blue Raiders third goal of the game at the 37:27 mark to put LWC up 3-0.

The Blue Raiders controlled possession for the next several minutes and with 23:37 on the clock, Lindsey Wilson added to their lead again as Mia Persson scored off a Patricia Nielsen assist to give LWC a 4-0 advantage.

SNU was never able to threaten again as the time wound down and the Blue Raiders sealed the 4-0 victory.

For the game, Lindsey Wilson out-shot SNU 15-5, including six shots on goal to SNU’s two.

In goal, SNU’s Erica Brown got the start, allowing two goals with one save in 45 minutes of work. Rachael Wade came into the game in relief in the second half and picked up one save with two goals allowed in 45 minutes of work as well. LWC’s Carrie Revlett picked up one save and Reiko Yoshida had a save as well in the combined shutout win.
