Northwestern Oklahoma State pitcher Clay Thomas and Rogers State first baseman Rob Rodriguez have been named the first Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week.


Thomas, a junior righty from Arlington, Texas, tossed a one-hit shutout in the Rangers' season opener against Dallas Christian. He registered seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

Rodriguez, a senior from the Bronx, N.Y., batted .667 (4 of 6) with two doubles and a home run for a 1.500 slugging percentage. He drove in five runs in leading the Hillcats to a pair of wins over Kansas Wesleyan. He also scored five runs, had a walk and a stolen base.
